Lifelong Learning

Our cognitive health is certainly a dimension that reflects the adage “Use it or lose it.” At Glenaire, we use many ways to engage our cognitive and neurological systems to keep them functioning at their peak.

OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute)

OLLI is a program for lifelong enrichment sponsored by N.C. State University. OLLI offers noncredit courses, study trips and special events for adults over 50. The courses are considered college-level but have no exams; the only request is that you come with a burning desire to learn. Topics of Encore classes range from Astronomy as a Hobby, Tracing Your Roots, Everything You Wanted to Know About the Vatican to The Power of Stories and many more. Glenaire is an on-site location for OLLI classes and also hosts OLLI’s stimulating Board Games Day.

Quiz Bowl

This knowledge-based competition pits teams against each other in a battle of brain power. Played both among Glenaire residents and against outside competition, the Jeopardy-style game is a fun and competitive way for our residents to keep their brains fresh and ready.

Computer Literacy

We also offer computer literacy classes for residents. Classes are held in the computer lab and appeal to people with little or no computer experience and to those who want to improve their existing computer skills. Many Glenaire residents have been trained to serve as computer coaches in this class.
